THE TWELFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS!

The day has arrived! The 12th day of Christmas! - 'Old Christmas' - 'Epiphany' = January 6th!

It was mid-morning. We decided to go for a walk in the neighborhood. All was still. All was quiet. No traffic. No buses, No stores open....... except...... the Pastry Shops. This is a day of 'big business'! A few days before many have placed their order for "Roscón de Reyes" = "King's Crown". It not you just go and stand in line. The line at our corner pastry shop was out the door to the sidewalk and around the corner!

The 'roscón' is a sweet bread in the form of a circle. Some have a cream filling or are filled with whipped cream or chocolate. It is decorated with pieces of fruit, and it is very good! Inside the bread, depending on the slice that has been served to you, you'll find either a little ceramic figure of a king or a big, brown dry bean! If you get the king, then you're 'king for the day' but if you get the bean you must pay for the 'roscón'.

Girls and boys have been up since dawn, running to the Christmas tree in the living room to see was the three kings brought them during the night! Such excitement! Then following breakfast, the family sets out to make some important visits: Grandma and Grandpa - both sets. At each place there are more gifts for the children. Depending on the extended family, visits can continue - aunts, uncles, cousins, special friends. If not, then you just stay at home and enjoy your gifts.

Matthew 2:9-11 - NLT - "And the star they had seen in the east guided them to Bethlehem. It went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the childd was. When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh."
